A couple weeks ago, I posted that I was on a mission to find a new mascara that had a low rating with the EWG. Since I’m a lash girl and like my lashes long, defined, voluminous and curled, this was definitely a tall order. Not only did I have to find a mascara that performed well, but I also had to search for one that was void of as many toxins as possible. Yikes! So I did some research and picked up 4 popular mascaras, that were rated 2 or lower. (You can read more about EWG’s rating system here).
Below I’m listing how they rated, and what my top favorite is. Now, since you’re armed with a list of safer options, it might be time for you to throw out your old standby and try something new!
1. Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Lash Boosting Mascara – I wanted to find a drugstore option and this is definitely rated the lowest of them all. However, it’s not my favorite. It’s a great choice if you’re in search of a natural look, but it just doesn’t give me enough “oomph”.
2. bareMinerals Flawless Definition Curl & Lengthen Mascara – I was excited that this was rated well because bareMinerals is easy to find and they have a few different mascara options. I definitely think this is a good everyday mascara and the fact that their waterproof option is also rated low, is a major plus.
3. Per-fékt Beauty Lash Perfection Gel – I really like this mascara and an even better version is due to come out this summer, that delivers long, separated lashes with volume and curl (I can’t wait!)
4. Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara – This mascara is a winner. Besides it’s adorable tube, the bubbled wand catches every lash and delivers longer, more voluminous lashes that aren’t clumpy or stiff. I love that it’s buildable and doesn’t flake, but comes off easily with face wash or makeup remover. I don’t even miss my old mascara and I’ll be sticking with this one! (At least until the next best thing comes along!)
